Work experience is defined by the Department of Education and Skills as:“…a placement on an employer’s premises in which a pupil carries out a particular task or duty, more or less as would an employee, but on the learning aspects of the experience”. (Work Experience: A Guide for Schools, DfEE, February 2002).
King’s Manor School believes that work experience should be:
Ø part of the learning entitlement for all students in school and should be made equally available irrespective of academic ability, race or gender; Ø seen as a means of achieving learning outcomes for students which are part of a broad, balanced and integrated curriculum; Ø viewed as a key aspect of both the schools’ careers education and guidance and personal and social development programme; and Ø clearly linked to the student’s learning objectives.
